The Micura team has officially booked its place in the semi-finals of the 2025 Maritime Cup, following a thrilling 1–0 victory over Comet on Wednesday, 19 November 2025, at the NPA Sports Ground, Surulere. After a series of intense group-stage matches, this crucial win brought Micura’s total points to 8, sealing second place in Group A and earning the team a well-deserved advancement into the knockout stage.
In the opening minutes of the first half, striker, Alaba Saka delivered the game’s only goal, a clean finish that brought the Micura supporters to their feet and set the tone for the battle ahead.
The team continued to press forward, creating multiple goal opportunities throughout the match. Left winger Anthony Onojve came close on several occasions, pushing aggressively into Comet’s defensive line with two to three strong goal attempts, but luck wasn’t on our side in front of the net.
Despite these near-misses, Micura remained determined all through the match.
If the attack brought excitement, the defense definitely brought reassurance. Team Captain, Segun Adedoja, put on one of his finest performances of the tournament so far from blocking long-range shots to cutting off counterattacks and organizing the defensive line with precision and composure. His leadership on the pitch was evident in every high-pressure moment.
Behind him, Micura’s goalkeeper, Niyi Oluwatoye, demonstrated steady hands and calm presence, making key saves that kept Comet out and protected our narrow lead. Together, the backline showed exceptional discipline which was a major factor in securing the semi-final ticket.
Not forgetting the Micura supporting club, they truly made the match unforgettable as the stadium came alive with the sound of thunderous vuvuzelas, whistles, chants calling the team forward, even prayers, dancing and celebration. The supporters played a huge role in lifting the players’ spirits during crucial moments. Their energy electrified the atmosphere and added to the confidence driving the team on the field.
Following the qualification, the Managing Director of Micura Services Limited, High Chief (Dr.) Michael Orobosa Ubogu, sent heartfelt words of appreciation and encouragement to the team. He commended the players, the coaching crew and supporters for their hard work, commitment, and performance throughout the tournament so far, emphasizing how proud he is of what Micura has achieved in this year’s maritime cup.
